Bluesky would like to congratulate Joshua Heavens from Willmott Dixon on the 2018 Considerate Constructors award (silver) for Wigan Community and Ambulance Station.

Bluesky are proud to have worked with Willmot Dixon on this innovative and successful project.

Bluesky Team up with Equity Solutions!

Following on from the fundraising successes over the last few years, the team have decided take part in a selection of events to help raise money for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity.

The main challenge for this year, sees the team embarking on the Wythenshawe Circular Bike Ride on Sunday 2nd September. This is a gruelling 100K route which starts and finishes in Wythenshawe Park. The route will take our team through Knutsford, Northwich and then loops back round heading through Wilmslow to the finishing line at Wythenshawe Park!

The second challenge the team have decided to take part in is Gorge Walking at How Stean Gorge, Harrogate on the 14th July. The team will enter the gorge by abseiling 45ft and then forge their way against the flow of water as they scramble over boulders, slide down waterspouts, and jump into deep plunge pools in order to climb their way out.

And the final challenge is the 5K Colour Rush Run in Liverpool on the 21st July. The team will have to combat 20 obstacles and 8 colour stations on this course and will no doubt be looking very colourful by the time they finish the run!

Please support our team to raise funds for the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, the money raised will help provide support for children and their families during what can be a very difficult time for them.

Since starting at Bluesky in September 2017, I have had the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects – which has been both challenging and rewarding! The work undertaken at Bluesky is very diverse, including education and healthcare, which requires interesting and varied design solutions. Bluesky utilise the latest BIM software to develop projects, this brings a new dimension to the design process and is helping me to further my own career skillset.

I feel that working in a multidisciplinary environment is helping me gain a greater understanding and appreciation for all aspects of the building design process.

There is a strong sense of teamwork within the Bluesky group, with all colleagues being approachable and supportive of each other.

Brian Couser retires after 47 years with the company

Bluesky would like to bid a fond farewell to Senior Architectural Technologist Brian Couser. Brian has been with the company since the very start (employee number 001!) and has seen it through every iteration as it has evolved.

Several events have seen the day celebrated, with old partners, friends and colleagues travelling up to wish Brian the best and thank him for his efforts over the years.

As a parting gift, a newspaper from the day that Brian started (5th January, 1970) was sourced and presented in-house as part of a champagne fuelled send off.

Thanks Brian for all your hard work. We wish you all the best for your retirement!

Benjamin Sayers joins us from Sheffield Hallam University. Ben joins us in the role of Architectural Assistant Part 1 with a view to completing his 12 month PEDR (Professional Experience and Development Record). Welcome to the team!

Since starting my Part 1 placement year at Bluesky Design Services I have certainly been kept very busy, constantly learning and adapting my skillset for each project that I have been involved in. Most of the work I am doing is residential, however, I am also working on a few healthcare projects so there is always something different to be doing every day. There is always a sense of the people involved, including myself, bouncing new ideas around to bring together a proposal. I believe working on these projects from the very early concept design stages will benefit my professional progression as I will see through each of the work stages that the residential developments are going through. This is fortunate for myself, as I can ask questions, offer my solutions to the problems we come across and sit in on client meetings to share my thoughts on the project. On top of this, all the staff in the office are all very friendly, approachable professionals that are always happy to offer advice or their help whenever I ask! It is also a working environment that encourages you to work well, from the continued support from my mentor to the staff oriented approach from Bluesky as a company. I’m very happy to be starting off my professional career at Bluesky Design Services!

8 Bluesky travellers undertook a cultural study trip to Athens over the weekend, visiting the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre (SNFCC) and the Acropolis.

The trip was organised our tour guide Katerina in Bluesky, who previously worked for Betaplan Architects in Athens in collaboration with internationally renowned architect Renzo Piano Workshop, on the SNFCC building.

The project houses the Greek National Opera and Library set in an outstanding parkland location, high above the main port of Athens, and has recently just opened. A presentation of the architectural design was given by the Architects, and followed by a guided tour the following day.

We also visited the Acropolis, exploring the remains of the Parthenon, and other temples, amid the soaring 30 degree temperatures !

The trip was a huge success, with several cultural visits made to local olive grove restaurants, numerous city centre bars, rooftop restaurants, and kebab cafes, and served as a great team bonding exercise for everyone.
